Hello, as per the title we need to discuss acid, base & indicator. The first question arising how we may define it? So let's discuss it -
ACID:-
A substance whose taste is sour (khatta) & chemical nature is acidic, such as lemon, orange, curd etc.
BASE:-
A substance whose taste is bitter (kadwa) & chemical nature is basic, when we rub it between our finger we feel soapy. Ex. - baking soda etc.
INDICATOR:-
The substance which is used to identify acid, base & neutral solution. In short, we may separate acid & base with its help. Example:- Litmus, Turmeric (Haldi), & China rose.
How does the indicator helps to identify Acid & Base?
1) How litmus works -
- Litmus is available in form of paper strip & in solution.
- After contact between litmus strip & any solution ( test sample ) if litmus strip turns in red colour then the solution is acid.
- If it turns in blue color then the solution is base.
- If there is no change then the solution is neutral.
